Of the way of darkness, that
is, what kind of persons will forever be cast out of the kingdom of
God. ¾îµÒÀÇ ±æ¿¡ ´ëÇÏ¿©, ÀÌ ±æÀº ¾î¶² Á¾·ùÀÇ »ç¶÷µéÀÌ Çϳª´ÔÀÇ
³ª¶ó·ÎºÎÅÍ ¿µ¿øÈ÷ Ãß¹æµÉ °ÍÀÎÁö¿¡ ´ëÇÑ ¾ð±ÞÀÌ´Ù.

1. But the way of darkness is
crooked and full of cursing. For it is the way of eternal death, with
punishment, in which those that walk will meet those things that
destroy their own souls. ¾îµÒÀÇ ±æÀº ±ÁÀº ±æÀ̸ç ÀúÁÖ·Î
°¡µæ Â÷ ÀÖ´Â ±æÀÔ´Ï´Ù. ¿Ö³ÄÇϸé ÀÌ ±æÀ» °È´Â ¹«¸®µéÀº ÀÚ½ÅÀÇ ¿µÈ¥À» Æĸê½ÃÅ°´Â °Íµé°ú ¸¶ÁÖÄ¡°Ô µÇ°í, ¹úÀ» ¹Þ¾Æ
¿µ¿øÇÑ Á×À½¿¡ À̸£´Â ±æÀ̱⠶§¹®ÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
2. Such are: idolatry,
confidence, pride of power, hypocrisy, double-mindedness, adultery,
murder, pillage, pride, transgression, deceit, malice, arrogance,
witchcraft, covetousness, and the lack of the fear of

µÎ·Á¿öÇÏÁö ¾Ê´Â °ÍÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
By "confidence" here is meant an
overweening sense of self-confidence in one's abilities apart from
God. ¿©±â¼ 'Àڱ⠰ú½Å'ÀÌ ÀǹÌÇÏ´Â °ÍÀº Çϳª´Ô°ú ºÐ¸®ÇÏ¿© ÀÚ½ÅÀÇ ´É·ÂÀ»
°ú½ÅÇÏ´Â ±³¸¸ÀÇ °¨Á¤ÀÌ´Ù. 3. In this walk those who are the
persecutors of them that are good, the haters of truth and lovers of
lies, who do not know the reward of righteousness, nor adhere to
any thing that is good. ÀÌ ±æÀ» °È´Â ¹«¸®µéÀº ÂøÇÑ »ç¶÷µéÀ»

°ÅÁþÀ» »ç¶ûÇÏ´Â ÀÚµéÀÌ µË´Ï´Ù.
4. Who administer not righteous
judgment to the widow and orphan; who examine wickedness, and not the
fear of the Lord; ÀÌ »ç¶÷µéÀº °úºÎ°¡ µÇ¾î Ȧ·Î »ç´Â ¿©Àΰú
°í¾ÆµéÀ» ¿Ã¹Ù¸¥ ÆÇ´ÜÀ¸·Î º¸»ìÆì ÁÖÁö ¾ÊÀ¸¸ç, Çϳª´ÔÀ» µÎ·Á¿öÇÏÁö ¾ÊÀ¸¸ç »ç¾ÇÇÑ ÁþÀ» ÀÏ»ï½À´Ï´Ù.
5. From whom gentleness and
patience are afar off; who love vanity, and follow after rewards;
who have no compassion upon the poor, nor take any pains for those
who are burdened and oppressed. ÀÌ »ç¶÷µéÀº Á¤´Ù¿ò°ú Àγ»¿Í´Â °Å¸®°¡ ¸Õ »ç¶÷µé·Î¼, Ç㿵À» »ç¶ûÇÏ°í, ÀÚ½ÅÀÌ µ¹·Á ¹ÞÀ» ´ë°¡¿¡ µû¶ó
¿òÁ÷À̸ç, °¡³ÇÑ À̵鿡°Ô ÀüÇô ÀÚºñ½ÉÀÌ ¾øÀ¸¸ç, ¹«°Å¿î ÁüÀ» Áø »ç¶÷µé°ú ¾ï¾Ð¹Þ´Â »ç¶÷µéÀ» À§ÇÑ, ±× ¾î¶²
°íÅëµéµµ Áû¾îÁö·Á°í ÇÏÁö ¾Ê½À´Ï´Ù.
6. They readily speak evil, not
knowing him that made them; they are murderers of children, corrupters
of the creatures of God; they turn away from the needy and oppress the
afflicted; they are advocates of the rich, but unjust judges of the
poor; they are altogether sinners. ±×µéÀº

ÀÌÀÍÀ» ´ëº¯ÇÏ°í, °¡³ÇÑ »ç¶÷µé¿¡°Ô ºÒ°øÁ¤ÇÑ ÆÇ°áÀ» ³»¸®´Â ÀÚµé·Î¼, ÀÌ·± ÀÚµéÀÌ ¸ðµÎ ÁËÀεéÀÎ
°ÍÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
7. It is therefore appropriate
that, learning the just commands of the Lord we have before mentioned,
we should walk in them. For he who does such things will be
glorified in the kingdom of God. ±×·¯¹Ç·Î ¿ì¸®´Â
¾Õ¿¡¼ ¾ð±ÞÇÑ ÁÖ´ÔÀÇ Á¤ÀÇ·Î¿î °¡¸£Ä§À» ¹è¿ö ¸¶À½À» ¹Ù·Î ÇÏ°í ÀÌ·± »ç¶÷µé »çÀ̸¦ ÇìÃÄ ³ª¾Æ°¡¾ß ÇÕ´Ï´Ù. ¿Ö³ÄÇϸé ÀÌ·¸°Ô
ÇÏ´Â »ç¶÷ÀÌ Çϳª´ÔÀÇ ³ª¶ó¿¡¼ ¿µ±¤À» ¾òÀ» °ÍÀ̱⠶§¹®ÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
8. But he who chooses the other
part will be destroyed, together with his works. For this reason there
will be both a resurrection, and a retribution. ±×·¯³ª ÀÌ ±æÀÌ ¾Æ´Ñ ¾îµÒÀÇ ±æÀ» ¼±ÅÃÇÑ »ç¶÷Àº ÀڽŵéÀÌ ÇàÇÑ ±× ÀÏ°ú ÇÔ²² ¸ê¸ÁÇÏ°Ô µÉ °ÍÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
¹Ù·Î ÀÌ·± ÀÌÀ¯·Î ºÎÈ°°ú ÀΰúÀÀº¸°¡ ÇÔ²² ÀÖ´Â °ÍÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
9. I implore those that are in
high estate among you (if you will take the counsel that with a good
intention I offer to you), do not forsake those with you towards whom
you may do good. Á¦°¡ ¿©·¯ºÐµé Áß¿¡¼ ³ôÀº ÁöÀ§¿¡ ÀÖ´Â ºÐ²²
°£Ã»ÇÏ¿À´Ï (¸¸ÀÏ ÁÁÀº Àǵµ·Î ÀúÀÇ Á¶¾ðÀ» ¹Þ¾ÆµéÀδٸé Á¦°¡ Á¶¾ðÇÏ°Ú½À´Ï´Ù.) ¿©·¯ºÐ°ú ÇÔ²² ÀÖ´Â »ç¶÷ Áß¿¡ ¿©·¯ºÐÀÌ
¼±ÇàÀ» º£Ç®¾î¾ß ÇÒ »ç¶÷ÀÌ ÀÖ´Ù¸é ±× »ç¶÷À» Àú¹ö¸®Áö ¸»¾Æ¾ß ÇÑ´Ù´Â °ÍÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
10. For the day is at hand in
which all things will be destroyed, together with the wicked one. The
Lord is near, and his reward is with him. ¿Ö³ÄÇÏ¸é »ç¾ÇÇÑ »ç¶÷µé°ú ±×µéÀÌ ¼Õ¿¡ Áå ¸ðµç °ÍµéÀÌ ÆÄ¸ê ´çÇÒ ³¯ÀÌ ¹Ù·Î ´«¾Õ¿¡ ´Ù°¡¿Í ÀÖ±â
¶§¹®ÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
To destroy also means to utterly
defeat and lay waste; the Bible nowhere specifically implies the
actual annihilation of the wicked. ÆĸêÀº ¿ÏÀüÈ÷
ÆйèÇÏ¿© ¾µ¸ð¾øÀÌ ¹ö·ÁÁø´Ù´Â ÀǹÌÀÏ °ÍÀÌ´Ù. ¼º°æ ¾îµð¿¡µµ ½ÇÁ¦ÀûÀÎ ¼Ò¸ê¿¡ °ü·ÃµÈ Ưº°ÇÑ ¾ð±ÞÀº ¾ø´Ù.
11. Therefore I ask you, again
and again, be good lawgivers to one another, continue to be
faithful counselors to each other, and remove from among you all
hypocrisy. ±×·¯¹Ç·Î Àú´Â ¿©·¯ºÐµé¿¡°Ô °Åµì °Åµì ¿äûÇÕ´Ï´Ù. ¼·Î
¼·Î ¼±ÇÑ °èÀ²À» ÁÖ°í¹Þ´Â »ç¶÷µéÀÌ µÇ½Ê½Ã¿À. ¼·Î°¡ ¼·Î¸¦ ½Å·ÚÇÏ´Â Ãæ½ÇÇÑ Á¶¾ðÀÚ°¡ µÇµµ·Ï ÇϽʽÿÀ. ¿©·¯ºÐµé ¼Ó¿¡ ÀÖ´Â
¸ðµç À§¼±À» ¾ø¾Ö ¹ö¸®½Ê½Ã¿À.
12. And may God, the Lord of all
the world, give you wisdom, knowledge, counsel, and understanding
of his judgments in patience. ¿Â ¼¼»óÀÇ ÁÖ´ÔÀ̽Å
Çϳª´Ô²²¼ ¿©·¯ºÐ¿¡°Ô ÁöÇý¿Í Áö½Ä°ú Á¶¾ðÀ» ³»¸®°Ô ÇϽðí, Àγ» ¼Ó¿¡¼ Çϳª´ÔÀÇ ½ÉÆÇÀÇ Àǹ̸¦ ÀÌÇØÇϽñ⠹ٶø´Ï´Ù.
13. Be taught by God; seek what
it is the Lord requires of you, and do it, so that you may be saved in
the day of judgment. Çϳª´Ô¿¡ ´ëÇÑ °¡¸£Ä§À» ¹è¿ì°í,
ÁÖ´Ô²²¼ ¿©·¯ºÐ¿¡°Ô ¹Ù¶ó½Ã´Â °ÍÀ» ã¾Æ, ±× ÀÏÀ» ½ÇõÇÔÀ¸·Î½á, ½ÉÆÇÀÇ ³¯¿¡ ±¸¿øÀ» ¹Þµµ·Ï
ÇϽʽÿÀ.
14. And if there is any
remembrance among you of what is good, think of me by meditating on
these things, so that both my wishes and my watching for you may turn
to a good account. ¸¸ÀÏ ¿©·¯ºÐµé²²¼ ¿©·¯ºÐµé ¼Ó¿¡ Á¸ÀçÇÏ°í ÀÖ´Â
¼±ÇÑ °ÍÀÌ ¹«¾ùÀΰ¡¸¦ Á¶±ÝÀÌ¶óµµ ±â¾ïÇØ ³½´Ù¸é, ±×´ëµéÀ» À§ÇÑ ³ªÀÇ ¹Ù·¥°ú ÁÖ½Ã(ñ¼ãÊ)°¡ ÁÁÀº °á½ÇÀ» ¸ÎÀ» ¼ö ÀÖµµ·Ï
ÀÌ·¯ÇÑ Àϵ鿡 ´ëÇØ Àß »ý°¢Çغ¸½Ã°í Àú¸¦ ¶°¿Ã·Á ÁֽʽÿÀ.
15. I beg you, I ask it as a favor of you, that while you
are in this beautiful vessel of the body, be lacking in none of these
things, but seek them without ceasing and fulfill every command,
for these things are proper and worthy to be done. Àú´Â °£ÀýÈ÷ ¿©·¯ºÐÀÌ º£Ç® °ÍÀ» °£Ã»ÇÕ´Ï´Ù. ±×¸®°í ±×°ÍÀº ¿©·¯ºÐÀÌ
ÀÌ ¾Æ¸§´Ù¿î À°Ã¼¶ó´Â ±×¸© ¼Ó¿¡ ¸Ó¹«´Â µ¿¾È¿¡ ´Ù¸¥ »ç¶÷µé¿¡°Ô È£ÀǸ¦ º£Ç® °ÍÀ» ¿äûÇÕ´Ï´Ù. ÀÌ·¸°Ô ¿©·¯ºÐµéÀÌ
ÀÌ ¸ðµç °¡¸£Ä§µéÀ» ¿ÂÀüÈ÷ ¹Þ¾ÆµéÀÌ°í ½° ¾øÀÌ Ãß±¸ÇÒ ¶§ ¿©·¯ºÐµéÀº ±× ¾î´À Çϳª ºÎÁ·ÇÔÀÌ ¾ø´Â »óÅ°¡ µÉ
°ÍÀÔ´Ï´Ù. ¿Ö³ÄÇϸé ÀÌ·¯ÇÑ ÀϵéÀº ¿Ç°í ÇàÇÒ¸¸ÇÑ °¡Ä¡°¡ Àֱ⠶§¹®ÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
16. Wherefore I have diligently written to you, according to my
ability, that you might rejoice. Farewell, children, in love and

17. May the Lord of glory and of all grace be with your spirit,

Although we find echoes
in the New Testament of nearly all the
exhortations in this General Epistle of Barnabas, we must remember
that he is not so much quoting but expressing the same thoughts as his
contemporaries, for all the books of the New Testament had not yet
been written (certainly not the Epistle of Jude's Epistle or the works
of John, which include his Gospel, his three Epistles, and
Revelation), and it would be centuries before the canon was officially
decided.
Cotelerius affirms that Origen and Jerome
esteemed this Epistle genuine and canonical, although he himself
did not believe it to be either one or the other; on the contrary,
he supposes it was written for the benefit of the Ebionites (the
christianized Jews) who were tenacious of rites and ceremonies.
It lays a greater claim to canonical
authority than most others and was read in the churches at Alexandria,
as the canonical scriptures were. It has been cited by Clemens
Alexandrinus, Origen, Eusebius, and Jerome, and many ancient
Fathers.
